A very interesting article about the antiporta (the inner door) appeared on December 29.

The studies being conducted about this seem interesting. The topic reminds me of happy times in days gone by. About 50 years ago, when I lived in Sliema, we had a beautiful one, very similar to that in the picture accompanying the article except that it used to be opened or closed with a knob. Then, we used to leave the main wooden door open wide all the time, except during the night. Many people, especially in Gozo, used to leave the key in the main door in full view of passersby.

When I was a child, together with my siblings, we used to go through one of the squares of the antiporta that had a missing glass.

Of course, given today’s crime, one cannot rely on the antiporta anymore. Hence, its disappearance.
