A clean-up activity at Santa Luċija was recently organised by the Ekoskola group at St Thomas More College Secondary School, Santa Luċija, with the help of other students from the school.

The students were given gloves, pickers, black, green and grey garbage bags by the locality’s local council and they cleaned the area around the playground and the football ground.

Leah Cocks, a student from Class 5C remarked: “We were both surprised and appalled to see the kind of rubbish that people litter the locality with, instead of using a bin.” The waste collected included plastic bottles, cigarettes, lighters, tin cans and boxes, cartons, glass, paper, make-up, small pieces of tiles, electronic parts, jablo, children’s toys and ornaments.

The students filled up a total of 17 green/grey and black garbage bags.

This activity helped to raise the students’ awareness about the need to keep the environment clean and the small effort needed to place waste in the respective bins.
