The first edition of the Malta International Christmas Choir Festival, featuring performances by 25 local choirs from 12 localities forming Reġjun Tramuntana, as well as other choirs from Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Hungary, the UK, and Lithuania, will be held from today to Sunday.

The concerts will be held at various churchesin the region, comprising the local councils of Mdina, Dingli, Mellieħa, Mġarr, Mosta, Naxxar, Għargħur, Mtarfa, Rabat, St Paul’s Bay, Pembroke and Swieqi.

The festival opens with three concerts today: at St Mary’s parish church, Dingli, at 7.30pm, featuring six choirs from Malta, Italy (Sardinia), Spain, Lithuania and Wales; at the Nativity of Our Lady parish church, Mellieħa, at 7.30pm, featuring six choirs from Malta,  Hungary, Italy (Sicily) and Greece; and at Ta’ Ġieżu church, Rabat, at 8pm, featuring five choirs from Malta, Lithuania, France and Italy (Sardinia). 

Tomorrow there will be another three concerts: at the Nativity of Our Lady parish church, Naxxar, at 7.30pm, featuring six choirs from Malta, Italy (Sardinia), Hungary and Lithuania; at St Mary’s parish church, Mġarr, at 7.30pm, featuring six choirs from Malta, Greece, Lithuania and Italy (Sardinia); and at the Assumption of Our Lady Basilica, Mosta, at 8.30pm, featuring six choirs from Malta, the UK (Wales), France, Italy (Sicily) and Spain. 

On Sunday, seven foreign choirs from Italy (Sicily and Sardinia), Lithuania, Greece and Hungary will take part in the Masses held at 9.45am at Ta’ Ġieżu church, Rabat; 11am at St Francis of Assisi parish church, Qawra; 11am at Our Lady of Sorrows parish church, St Paul’s Bay; 11am at the Risen Christ parish church, Pembroke; 11am at St Oswald’s parish church, Mtarfa; 11am at the Assumption of Our Lady basilica, Mosta; and 12.15pm at Immaculate Conception parish church, Swieqi.

This final concert will be held on Sunday at 7.15pm at Mdina Cathedral, featuring 12 choirs from Malta, Lithuania, Italy (Sardinia), Hungary, France, Sicily, Greece, Spain and the UK (Wales). The concert will also be recorded and transmitted on TVM close to Christmas Day.

Admission to all the concerts is free but donations, which will go to charities working in the region, would be appreciated.
