The 54th meeting of the season made up of eleven races all for trotters on a long distance of 2,640m was held at the Marsa Racetrack on Sunday afternoon.
These races were all semi-finals from various championships for French trotters organized by the Malta Racing Club in collaboration with the French association Le Trot and the betting companies Izibet and PMU.
The two most important races were the semi-finals from the Prix De Vincennes championship for class Premier trotters, won by favourites Amour Du Loup and Utopiste.
From the two class Premier semi-finals, twelve trotters made it for the final stage.
In the first semi-final, there was a keen tussle in the final straight between Amour Du Loup (Michael Ellul), Titan d’Abo (Charles Camilleri) and Tallien (Melvin Farrugia). It was the former which sealed its second win in a row in Malta.
Utopiste (Jesmar Gafa’), took the lead midway through the 2640m distance of the second class Premier semi.
Gafa’s trotter gained also its second consecutive win and in Malta by half length from Ultra De Vindecy (Michael Ellul).
In the first semi-final from the Prix d’Enghien championship for class Gold trotters, Gozitan Julian Farrugia put Swan Des Tesnieres in front with a lap to go.
This French trotter sealed its fifth win of the season by a length from Uveo De Maza (Noel Baldacchino), Un Amour Du Pont (Andrew Farrugia) and Vas Y Pebe (Rodney Gatt).
Un Reve d’Or (Jesmar Gafa’) dashed strongly from the outside during the last 500m of the second semifinal from the same championship.
Reve d’Or registered its first win of the year from Vif Ludois (Charles Debono), Tyrol De Feugeres (Rodney Gatt) and Un Bon Fils (Nicholas Cauchi).
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Saturday. The first race should start at 1.15pm.
