A diver’s video of a large wreck littering the sea-bed off Paradise Bay has spurred action, after the authorities admitted they were unaware of what had happened.

Posting his video to Facebook, diver Raniero Borg said: “The boat has been broken into pieces, which polluted the area on land and in sea. The boat's engines are still there, generator, oil leakage and batteries...”

He called on the authorities to take action to ensure the wreckage was immediately removed.

However, in a statement, Transport Malta said it had not been informed about the incident by the ship’s master or operator, which is required by law, and only got wind of the wreckage through the diver’s video.

“The Authority is currently establishing whom the owners of the vessel are, in order for them to take the necessary action and remove the wreckage,” it said.
