A woman’s lifeless body was found off the coast of Għar Lapsi and lifted to shore by helicopter on Monday afternoon.

The operation began at around 3.30pm after the body was spotted at sea. An Armed Forces of Malta helicopter was dispatched to the scene and used to hoist the body, which was then transferred to a hearse once on land.

The police said the woman was 51 resident in Gzira.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud is leading an inquiry into the incident.
