From time to time, an official from the Ministry of Infrastructure is invited on Radio Malta to talk about infrastructural projects in hand and reply to people’s queries and complaints.

Tano Vella, who is usually the guest from this ministry, expressed his personal opinion against the so-called wavy pavements. Notwithstanding this, we ordinary citizens are still obliged to use them whether we like it or not, as the other option would be to walk on the road.

Hundreds of people complain about them but it seems they have the blessing of the authorities. The Infrastructure Ministry seems to be more concerned about garage owners and their cars than about the difficulties encountered by pedestrians.

I don’t think it is fair that we taxpayers are taken for a ride. Fancy talk alone on the State radio does not really show any concern for citizens. Many people are known to have slipped on these pavements.

I would also like to mention the zebra crossing at the very beginning of Eucharistic Congress Road, Mosta, in front of the Rotunda, which presents a danger to those who use it.

This zebra crossing has been described by many people as being dangerous for pedestrians. According to Mr Vella, his ministry is concerned about people’s complaints. This does not seem to be the case as the  zebra crossing is still there, waiting to be moved to a safer place.

Perhaps the authorities are waiting, God forbid, for a tragedy to take place, and then perhaps action will be taken, as is usually the case in our beloved country.
