People who braved the heavy downpours on Friday to go to Ta’ Qali to pick up their set of four stackable recycling bins complained of a lack of organisation which led to queues getting longer as the day wore on.

Long queues have plagued the free distribution service, which began last month ahead of a revised recycling system which came into force on October 31.

Residents who contacted Times of Malta after being forced to queue suggested tweaking the system to organise collection at more convenient spots such as local supermarkets, post officers or councils.

A reader told Times of Malta tourists aboard an open top sight-seeing bus which drove past the queue must have thought they had been transported to a third world country.

The distribution of containers on Saturday has been cancelled, Wasteserv said on its website.
