A one-day seminar steered by Deutsche Welle's political correspondent will discuss the different styles of reporting in the digital age.

No matter what story they cover, most journalists rarely publish their work on a single platform these days. The rise of social media has changed the way we consume news and the way we report it. The seminar looks at ways to decide the outlets to choose, how to use new technologies to guarantee standard principles of journalism and how to continue from breaking to lasting by reporting on a developing story, while experimenting with new media formats.

Held on Friday, November 30 at Intercontinental Malta, St George's Bay, the event is organised by Times of Malta in collaboration with the German-Maltese Circle and the Goethe Institute.

Maximiliane Koschyk has worked and trained with the German foreign media service since 2013. As a multimedia reporter she has covered Germany's federal elections, the Brexit referendum for TV, online and social media and experimented with new reporting tools such as VR.

Ms Koschyk will tackle four main aspects of reporting for online:
• One story, many outlets: Working as a multimedia journalist;
• The journalist's pocket knife: How to use your smartphone for multimedia reporting;
• From breaking to lasting: how to report a developing story;
• Experimenting with new media formats (VR, social reporting) in an established newsroom.

The presentation would be a combination of general principles of these methods, hands-on exercises and examples from the journalist's own work.

The seminar is open to media specialists, students and anyone operating with social media.

Ms Koschyk has previously worked for the dpa news agency, BBC, Sky News and Handelsblatt Group. She studied Chinese in Cologne, International Politics in Denmark and Finance Journalism in London.

The seminar fee of €15 will include a buffet lunch and coffee breaks.

To book a place send an e-mail to gmc@germanmaltesecircle.org by not later than Friday, November 23.
