Embellishment works will include the installation of outdoor gym equipment, CCTV security equipment, an irrigation system and perimeter fencing. The football pitch’s turf will be replaced and the equipment upgraded.

New and safer playing field equipment will be installed while the sanitary facilities in the garden will completely be changed. Maintenance will be carried out on the lampposts and the seating and flooring materials. The electrical and cabling systems will also be upgraded for better safety.

Situated on the Floriana bastions, the gardens were inaugurated in 1936 by King George V. Originally, the gardens were part of the King George V hospital but were later made accessible to the public. The entrance to the gardens is characterised by a gracefully decorated arch with the British monarchy coat-of-arms up at the top.

In 1951, a clubhouse was built within the grounds of the garden to serve as the headquarters of the Malta Playing Fields Association. The first playing field in Malta was installed within this garden.

The PA recently also signed a number of agreements to fund community projects with another eight local councils worth over €475,000. For more information visit www.pa.org.mt.
