Villa Bologna, one of Malta’s finest baroque villas known for its architectural importance and extensive gardens, is marking another milestone in its history by launching a new ‘bottega shopping’ concept – integrating organic products and delicatessen with fresh, chemical-free produce from its gardens alongside ceramics from its pottery.

The Veg Box and Pottery already housed on the estate, together with Farmer’s Deli, the established online store selling exclusively organic products, are expected to bring new life to the centrally located Three Villages and give a significant boost to the ever-increasing market for organic and artisan products.

“We look forward to offering an authentic and enjoyable experience to Maltese customers and the many tourists who already visit the estate daily by offering freshly harvested produce, organic delicacies and local craftsmanship in a tranquil setting surrounded by natural beauty,” says the villa’s owner Jasper de Trafford.

Today a scheduled building and a national monument, Villa Bologna was built in the 18th century, when Malta was ruled by the Knights of St John.

The historic gardens are beautifully landscaped with majestic fountains and statuary alongside centuries-old citrus orchards and a vegetable garden created by Lady Strickland in the 1920s, now yielding the most delicious Mediterranean produce.

The Villa Bologna shop is open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm.
