In August, the number of persons registering for work stood at 1,787, a decrease of by 28.2 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2017.

Data provided by Jobsplus for August 2018 indicate a decline of 570 persons registering under Part I and a decrease of 132 among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register, when compared to the same month last year.

The National Statistics Office reported that the registered unemployed had declined across all the age groups, and across all the categories with regards to how long they had been registering. The largest decrease in registrants was recorded among persons who had been registering for less than 21 weeks.

The registered unemployment rate in April 2018 stood at 0.9 per cent of the labour supply, (excluding part-time employment): one per cent for men and 0.7 per cent for women.
