Maltese young star Gaia Cauchi on Saturday wowed the X-Factor UK judges with her rendition of Paloma Faith’s “Only Love Can Hurt Like This”, getting four yeses.

The 15-year-old told the judges she had wanted to take part in the contest when she was younger but believed now was the right time.

As she finished her audition, judge Robbie Williams told Ms Cauchi she was incredibly charismatic and had the X Factor but said he believed her age was a concern.

“I think you should have a go at being in a group and being able…” The boos from the crowd did not allow him to finish his sentence.

Judge Ayda Field told her “You are absolutely incredible, an incredible singer there is no doubt about it. I think you’re amazing and you have huge potential.”

And the feared Simon Cowell said “Can I be the first to say yes?”

His vote was echoed by judge Louis Tomlinson who said “this is easy, absolutely yes”.

In December 2013, young Ms Cauchi became the youngest person to be awarded Gieħ ir-Repubblika, Malta’s highest honour, after her triumph at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, which she won.
