BPW (Valletta) Malta, in collaboration with Spazio Margutta, creators and producers of the Premio Margutta – La Via delle Arti, and BPW (Rome) Italy, recently held its prestigious gala award ceremony at Verdala Palace, Buskett.

The Business and Professional Women’s organisation – BPW International – is one of the oldest and largest female organisations of its kind in the world, devoted entirely to the empowerment of young girls and women and interests and needs of all employed women irrespective of occupation or status.

Premio Margutta – La Via dell Arti is an annual event which has been held in Rome for the past 12 years. This year the award ceremony is being held outside of Italy for the very first time. One of the reasons Malta was chosen is that Valletta is 2018 European Capital for Culture.  This award recognises individuals from various sectors such as art, fashion, cinema, theatre, journalism, television, literature, fiction, music, media and other catagories.

This year’s award winners are a mix of Maltese and Italian standouts in their respective sector. These include Gianluca Guidi (theatre), Emma Muscat (music), Emma D’Aquino (journalism), Joel Saliba (arts), Clare Azzopardi (literature), Angelo Mellone (television), Antonio Grimaldi (fashion), Laura Bozzi (publishing), Malta Film Commission (cinema), Diar il Bniet (culinary) and Sante Guido & Giuseppe Mantella (arts restoration). The Targa Awards for special recognition in the promotion of Maltese-Italian alliance were awarded to Pineider, Victor Camilleri and Air Malta.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who was guest of honour, was awarded a special award (empowerment) for her continued work to promote women’s rights, the rights of minorities and those of vulnerable people.

A fashion show by famous designers Filippo Laterza and Good Luck Luxury entertained the guests before the award ceremony.
