To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the China Cultural Centre in Malta, the Fujian Art and Culture Troupe will be staging a multidisciplinary performance entitled Melodious Fujian Moon Festival.

The Chinese Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is China’s second most important traditional festival after the Spring Festival. It is determined by exact astronomical observations of the sun’s longitude and the moon’s phases, which typically define the Chinese luni-solar calendar.

Owing to the symbolic wholeness of a large and luminous full moon, the moon festival is widely associated with sentimental connotations of unity and reunion, enjoyment of close friends and transmitting affection to loved ones far away through the far-reaching moonlight.

The troupe is trained in various performing arts, including opera, dance, theatre, acrobatics and puppetry, the latter of which is protected under the Unesco Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The  large-scale dance-drama Dream of Maritime Silk Road received wide acclaim and was performed at the United Nations headquarters as well as the EU headquarters.

The Melodious Fujian-Moon Festival performance is being held today at 7.30pm at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta. Entrance is free, however, complimentary tickets must be obtained from www.kreattivita.org. Donations will be collected on the evening in aid of the Community Chest Fund.
