I refer to the call made a few days ago for the free supply of post-exposure (PEP) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) anti-HIV drugs for the LGBTIQ community. Were that to happen it would amount to discrimination against the heterosexual community.
A recent meeting of the International Aids Society in Amsterdam recommended an effective medicine for preventing HIV infection among the sexually promiscuous (whether gay or heterosexual). It consists of a combination of two antiretroviral drugs which, taken before intercourse, is proven to prevent HIV infection.
The rationale is somewhat analogous to the contraceptive Pill. It is argued that providing this service would be much more cost-effective than the consequence of acquiring HIV infection – the life-long supply of antiretroviral drugs.
