Central mess

A central strip close to the aqueduct in Santa Venera is always full of rubbish because drivers habitually throw unwanted items out the window while waiting at the traffic lights there. The central strip is cleaned regularly and, yet, the littering continues. A warden should be assigned or a CCTV camera installed to monitor the area and fine anyone caught littering.

Non-fiscal receipt

A good number of restaurants in Gozo have been giving customers a “non-fiscal receipt” instead of the obligatory fiscal one. Readers who contacted this newspaper even said most only issued a receipt when asked. Of course, the law demands otherwise but enforcement is evidently not our forte in both Malta and Gozo. Better monitoring is a must, perhaps starting from Gozo, though all restaurant owners should make it a point to respect the law.

Delivery trucks abuse

It seems the recent spike in the number of so-called ‘convenience stores’ has already started to have a negative impact because, apart from the increase in traffic in certain areas, delivery van drivers simply park their vehicles wherever they deem fit, with no regard to the law and oblivious to the inconvenience this could cause to others motorists and pedestrians. If such outlets continue to open in every corner of the island, it is crucial there is adequate enforcement of traffic laws.

No shade

Those waiting for buses at Mater Dei Hospital are being forced to stand in the sweltering heat as the bus shelters there are not enough to cater for the number of people waiting. Most of those waiting would have just been to the hospital and it’s outrageous that they have no option but to stand in the sun, especially if they are elderly. Transport Malta please take note.
