Abstract Reality, a photographic exhibition by Mary Attard, is currently being held in the Exhibition Halls in St Francis Square, Victoria.

This collection is on a theme which fascinates Attard – besides landscapes, she loves the ever-present opportunities of abstractions around her, which make lovely images in their own right with their colours, patterns or textures.

These could be noted in close-ups of things such as tree barks, patterns formed in landscapes as seen from above, interesting reflections, rock formations or compositions through lighting and photo editing.

Attard got absorbed in the world of photography since the mid-1970s and since then kept abreast with best ways to capture images with appropriate equipment, learning new ways of looking and seeing and getting familiar with the available finishes to adapt to her final images.

The finish is important as much as the shooting – according to the subject matter. She often prints on canvas, aluminium, wood and glass besides paper. Part of the proceeds of this exhibition are going towards Dar Hosea, who offer a shelter for women caught up in prostitution or drug abuse.

She hopes that besides being of some inspiration to whoever sees this exhibition, it will also be a vehicle to provide a small contribution towards Dar Hosea.

The exhibition runs at the Exhibition Hall, Ministry for Gozo, St Francis Square, Victoria until September 19. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8.15am to 12.45pm.
