A young man was remanded in custody on Tuesday pending the drawing up of a pre-sentencing report from the Probation Service after admitting his role in the theft of a car from Birkirkara.
Tristan Tedesco, 21, was accused of having, along with Rosmar Bugeja, 22, from Zejtun, stolen a Peugeot, taken it on a joy ride and ended up in a crash.
Inspector Elton Taliana had charged the young men with attempted aggravated theft, with having driven a stolen car and with carrying knives in public without a police licence.
Mr Tedesco had been separately charged with damaging the Peugeot, driving it without insurance cover, driving dangerously and failing to stop after a traffic accident.
He had been further accused of committing the crimes during the operative period of a number of suspended sentences, besides breaching a probation order and relapsing.
Following an admission by the accused, defence lawyer Mark Vassallo requested the drawing up of a pre-sentencing report.
Presiding magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech duly upheld this request, remanding Mr Tedesco in custody pending judgment.
Mr Bugeja pleaded guilty last week and was handed a suspended sentence.
Lawyers Franco Debono and Amedeus Cachia appeared parte civile for the victim.
