It’s no secret that roads in Mrieħel are among the worst across the island.

Now the industrial estate has bolstered its reputation for atrocious driving conditions with the addition of a ‘roundabout’ more suited to a Benny Hill sketch.

A section of a wooden pallet and with a black woman's summer hat atop it warns drivers at the intersection between Triq San Ġwakkin and Triq l-Esportaturi to steer clear of a crevasse-like pothole that has opened up there.

Cars must now manoeuvre around the improvised, summer-themed roundabout as they go about their daily business.

Photos were sent in by an irritated Times of Malta reader, who noted that the intersection is one of the industrial area's busiest.

This is not the first time Mrieħel’s poor conditions have been highlighted for criticism. Last February, a stroll around the industrial area unveiled confusion, congestion, dust... and even a dead cat lying by the side of the road.
