The first of a series of lectures about the economic and social history of Malta with the topic ‘Industry, foreign direct investment and economic development: The case of Malta 1911-1970’ is being held next week.

The lecture will be given by Mario Brincat, who holds a PhD in development sociology from the University of London (London School of Economics and Political Science) and will draw on material from his latest publication to illustrate the crucial early years of Malta’s FDI-based development model.

It will be held on Tuesday at 6pm at Binja Laparelli, Central Bank of Malta, which houses the bank’s new library (entrance from Triton’s Square).

The bank’s library, which specialises in banking, finance and economics, is intended to serve both as a corporate library as well as a financial research library. Information services, which are available in conventional and electronic form, are aimed primarily at meeting the bank’s own specialised needs.

However, the services are provided willingly to students, practitioners and experts.
