Barely half an hour after the announcement that gypsy punk icons Gogol Bordello will be playing Malta in July, Rock 'N Malta confirmed another four big names for the summer gig circuit - 00s indie rockers Kaiser Chiefs; reggae god Julian Marley, whose surname removes any need for introductions; as well as Dark Tranquillity and Evergrey on one night, guaranteed to give local metalheads all the excuses to do all the moshing.

All events are taking place at Aria, in San Ġwann, which - should anyone need reminding - was also where last year's legendary gig by The Hives went down last year. Not to mention the amazing gothmetal fest that was Lacuna Coil, back in November.

Gogol Bordello kick off the season with a performance on July 30, with the local Brodu opening. The band, a loose collective of musicians from the US, is known for high-octane performances, fronted by the incredible lead singer Eugene Hutz. It started garnering a huge international following soon after one of the tracks from its fourth album Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strikes  - Start Wearing Purple - was used in the cult movie Everything is Illuminated. Since then, the band has gone on to release six other full length albums, each featuring strong themes of migration, civil rights and the bohemian lifestyle.

Kaiser Chiefs will make all the 90s kids happy on August 30, stopping at Aria as part of their worldwide tour before hitting the UK for a final performance in Wolverhampton. The five-man band from Leeds is behind iconic hits like I Predict a Riot and Everyday I Love You Less and Less, from their 2005 album Employment, which would go on to sell over 3 million copies and win multiple awards. Local punksters Bila will be opening on the night.

August 24 sees metal acts Dark Tranquillity and Evergrey bringing the action to San Ġwann. The former are known for pioneering the so-called Gothenburg Sound, a subgenre of death metal showcasing melodic riffs. Local band Colourblind, one of the most respected veterans on the scene, will be opening.

The Rock'N Malta season comes to a chilled end with Julian Marley and The Uprising, supported by our own Manatapu. The son of legendary Bob Marley, Julian first made music headlines in 1996, with Lion in the Morning. His last album, Awake, was nominated for the Grammy Awards.

Tickets for all events are available on www.showshappening.com.
