Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana presented €89,400 to 19 voluntary organisations for the realisation of small projects, events and Gozo initiatives.
Among the NGOs that qualified for financial assistance were cultural associations, musical societies, associations that raise awareness about social and medical conditions and entities that work in the field of the environment.
Dr Caruana said the scheme was part of a programme of initiatives and projects grouped under Project Gozo with the aim to further strengthen and improve the social, cultural, economic and ecological fabric of Gozitan society. “This can be achieved through cooperation and networking between voluntary organisations and the Ministry,” said Dr Caruana.
There were 36 submissions and the selection process was carried out jointly between the Gozo Ministry and the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector.
Dr Caruana congratulated the organisations that participated in the scheme, praising their valuable role in the community and stressed the government’s commitment to continue to assist the voluntary sector and to support their work in Gozo.
The maximum amount of financial assistance that any NGO can receive was €5,000.
