The first edition of Teen Science Café Girls was recently held at Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary, Naxxar, to coincide with Unesco’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Other TSC Girls sessions were held at St Nicholas College Secondary School, Dingli, and St Ignatius College Secondary School, Ħandaq, with the participation of Year 10 female students.

These series of events are aimed at making science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) more popular among female students by providing them with the opportunity of meeting female STEM professionals. During these informal encounters, the professionals discuss their career paths and talk about work-related challenges and the way they overcame them, while the students are able to ask questions related to STEM careers.

The initiative is organised by the Directorate of Learning and Assessment Programmes to empower young students to pursue STEM subjects and related careers. The directorate plans to extend the TSC Girls initiative to other secondary schools in the next scholastic year.
