European Commissioners Corina Creţu and Karmenu Vella hosted the first Citizens’ Dialogue at the Grand Hotel, Mġarr, as part of the Commission’s initiative aimed at engaging with citizens across Europe. During these encounters, which take the form of town-hall debates, European Commissioners listen to the concerns and answer the questions that citizens raise.

Ms Creţu emphasised that the Cohesion Policy is the human face of Europe. It is the practical means by which the European Union improves the daily life of citizens. Through financial assistance to regions, the policy aims to ensure that, whether living on an island or on the mainland, nobody is left behind.

Mr Vella reaffirmed the added-value of the European Union which guarantees that all citizens are equal wherever they come from, both in enjoying the benefits as well as in making a difference and contributing to reaching our common goals.

The event was moderated by Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee head Vanni Xuereb.
