Students from Sir Michelangelo Refalo Sixth Form, Victoria, recently travelled to Sweden, where, together with peers at Jämtlands Gymnasium school in Östersund, Sweden, they exchanged views and ideas about how to advertise one’s locality to attract more tourists.

The Swedish students then had to create short video clips highlighting particular areas and tourist attractions in Östersund and the Jämtland region, as part of a Marketing Movie Festival. The students split up in small groups and focused on topics such ‘Sports in Östersund’, ‘Hotels and resorts in Jämtland’ and the local football team ‘IFK Östersund’. The students later watched the videos produced at the end of the event.

The Swedish and Gozitan students also took part in a Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise (JA-YE) competition called Camp Creative in which, again split up in small groups, they were challenged to come up with the most innovative ways to increase business, investment and job creation in Östersund and Gozo respectively to try to put an end to the brain drain in both places. The winning team consisted of two Gozitan and four Swedish students who presented their ideas to the other students in a thorough and well-expressed manner.

During their stay the Gozitan students also had the opportunity to try out sledging and skiing on a mountain in Storlien and a sauna and ice-bath at Storsjöbadet waterpark. They also visited a chocolate factory and a moose farm.
