Road contractors will have to pull up their socks once the soon-to-be established Infrastructure Agency takes over road maintenance from Transport Malta.

The head of the new agency, Fredrick Azzopardi, told Times Talk that meetings were being held to ensure that the highest standards were adhered to, acknowledging that there had been problems in the past.

The agency will be overseeing the €700 million upgrade to the roads which will take place over a seven-year period, meaning consideration planning and preparation would be needed to avoid traffic chaos, he said.
