The 14th meeting of the season, made up of ten races all for trotters, was held on Sunday afternoon at the Marsa Racetrack.

Three of these races were semi-finals from the prestigious BOV Tazza l-Kbira Championship for the best trotters on the island on a long distance of 2640m. From these semifinals, twelve horses made it for the final stage.

Eleven trotters lined up in the first semi-final. Driving French Ustar De Vandel, Mario Fenech went in front with a lap to go.

The French trotter opened a small lead ahead of Venicio Bello (Andrew Pace) and Urgos Du Cedre (Jean Paul Polidano). When the front horses headed into the final straight, Ustar De Vandel finished strong to secure its second consecutive win by three lengths from Urac (Andrew Farrugia) and Paparazzi (Mark Bonnici).

The early leader of the second semi-final, Swedish Brigadoon (Julian Farrugia) was outsmarted by Service Secret (Andrew Farrugia) midway through the final straight of the race.

This was the second win of the year for Farrugia’s French twelve year old trotter. Tyrol De Feugeres (Charles Camilleri) and Midsummer King (Clint Vassallo) also qualified for the final stage after ending respectively in third and fourth place.

It should be noted that last year Service Secret finished second in the final of this competition.  In the third and last class Premier semi-final, French Urgah Du Rib (Charles Camilleri) was unchallenged for most of the 2640m distance of the race.

The ten year-old trotter succeeded in claiming its second consecutive win and in Malta by two lengths from Tip Top Nelliere (Michael Ellul) and Tanguy De Nappes (Ronald Cassar).

Rififi Nonantais (George Attard) followed behind in that order.
