Gżira United and Floriana left it stalemate at the Hibs Stadium in what was a pulsating match but which never really clicked into gear in terms of clear-cut goalscoring opportunities.

Neither side really produced any clear-cut occasions in what was a heated first half between two sides who in the previous round drew 1-1, with Gżira United nabbing an injury-time equaliser. 

The only time the Greens came close to find the net was inside the first quarter of the game, when Juninho Cabral connected with a free-kick but his header sailed over the bar. 

On 39 minutes, Andrew Cohen came close to put Gżira ahead with a well-taken free-kick but Ini Akpan diverted into corner. 

Floriana opened the second half brightly, pushing men forward as they were looking to break the deadlock. Nayar attempted his luck from a free-kick outside the edge but his effort was swept by the goalkeeper.

Nonetheless, Floriana did not manage to make their pressure count, failing to down a resolute Gżira side. 

Four minutes from time, Haruna Garba rushed towards goal, beat Dylan Grima before sending a shot from somewhat tight angle but Ini Akpan was on alert to avert the danger. 

On the brink of full-time, Gżira came close to claim the winner but Samb’s header went wide from Akpan’s goal as both sides ended the game in a stalemate amid the disappointment of both set of supporters.
