A sacred music concert entitled A Night at the Cathedral will be performed by the Birżebbuġa Philharmonic Wind Orchestra at the Mdina Cathedral tomorrow at 8pm. The band will be directed by Mro Michael Bugelli and accompanied by tenor Charles Vincenti and soprano Ruth Sammut Casingena.

The concert is being held to mark the 50th anniversary since Blessed Pope Paul VI declared that the relics unearthed during excavations beneath the Vatican’s main altar truly belonged to St Peter the Apostle. It is also commemorating the 25th anniversary since the death of Mro Carmelo Pace and the 100th anniversary since the end of World War I.

The programme includes Mro Carmelo Pace’s popular hymn to St Peter the Apostle; Preludio from the cantata Tu Es Petrus by Ray Sciberras; Phillipe Rhombi’s Ave Maria; Riz Ortolani’s Dolce Sentire from Fratello Sole, Sorella Luna; a selection from the Maltese movie Anno Domini XXXIII by Ray Sciberras; Symphony no. 1, The Archangels by Franco Cesarini and Omaggio alla Filarmonica San Pietro Birżebbuġa by Alexander Caruana with adaptation by Simon Farrugia.

A Night at the Cathedral concert will be performed by the Birżebbuġa Philharmonic Wind Orchestra at the Mdina Cathedral tomorrow at 8pm.  Admission is free.
