Several events are being held this weekend to mark the fifth anniversary of the inauguration of Il-Ħaġar Heart of Gozo Museum in St George’s Square, Victoria, on February 23, 2013.

An exhibition on Maestro Joseph Vella’s life will be opened today at 6.30pm, preceded by a video presentation, a short square piano recital by Francis James Camilleri of Mro Joseph Vella’s Offerta Musicale Op. 87, and a speech by the composer.

The Joseph Vella Archive at the museum, which will include surround-sound music, documents and memorabilia, will be inaugurated tomorrow at 6.30pm. The programme includes the performance of Mro Vella’s Cantilena, and a lecture in English by Bernard Micallef about Pietru Caxaru’s Cantilena, the earliest Maltese poem.

A thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated by curator Mgr Joseph Farrugia at St George’s Basilica on Sunday at 11am followed by a celebratory luncheon at Hotel Ta’ Ċenċ at 12.30pm.
