The Malta Waterpolo national team succumbed to two defeats in their first couple of outings in the LEN Europa Cup, currently held in Croatia.

Karl Izzo's clan opened their commitments with heavy defeat to Serbia, 17-3, during which Aurelien Cousin scored twice while the other goal was added by Ben Plumpton.

In the following matchup, Malta clashed with Netherlands and they gave the Dutch a run for their money before eventually lose 12-8.

Dino Zammit, Aurelien Cousin, Matthew Zammit and Ben Plumpton scored a goal each with Steve Camilleri listing his name on the score sheet four times.

Meanwhile, Karl Izzo has underlined his satisfaction in his team's performances and results.

"At the moment, I'm very happy with the outcome of this trip as the boys are performing well against very strong opposition," Izzo said.

"We managed to improve our score against Serbia from the last encounter in Belgrade where we lost 20-2, as now we lost 17-3. The same can be said about our match against the Netherlands, as in 2016 we lost 19-11 while now we were defeated 12-8.

The team fought till the end in both matches but we lost three one on one situations against Serbia and also failed to capitalise on three man-up opportunities. We also failed to convert any of the 10 man-up situations against the Dutch", Izzo concluded.
