Two men in a van threw water at a bus driver and hurled racist abuse in an incident which shocked passengers in Żabbar yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened near Hompesch Gate.

One of the passengers was so disgusted she filed a report to Malta Public Transport, which confirmed the incident and is investigating it.

An eyewitness reported in a post on Facebook group RUBS Are You Being Served? that a van drove up against the bus, but eventually gave way for the bus to drive on.  

But when the bus stopped at the traffic lights, the two men in the van pulled up and threw water at the driver through his open window, drenching him. They also allegedly fired off a stream of racial abuse based on his skin colour.  

The eyewitness said bus passengers were disgusted and concerned about the driver’s well-being. 

A spokesman for Malta Public Transport said the driver had been interviewed. The company strongly condemned the incident.
