The official 2002/03 calendar of the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association (MBSA) will come to a close tomorrow when Joe Grech and Alex Borg, both players of St Joseph BC, Hamrun, will figure in the final of the billiards competition.

Grech, world billiards champion in 1997, has won the national title nine times but for 2003 snooker champion Borg it will be his first final in the 'three-ball' game.

The championship got underway in May with players divided into two groups for a round robin format and the first to top 100 points wins.

Grech was Group A winner with maximum points ahead of runner-up Pullu Grech, of La Valette BC. Borg only lost one match on his way to topping Group B. Duncan Bezzina (MLP Paola) was second.

In the semi-finals, Joe Grech found little difficulty to eliminate Bezzina 6-1 (4-1 away and 2-0 home) but Borg had to cancel a 5-1 deficit before beating the stiff challenge of Pullu Grech (1-4 away and 5-1 home).

Tomorrow's final at St Joseph Band Club Hamrun is best of 13 frames. The contest starts at 6.30 p.m. Charles Camilleri will be the referee.
