A Turkish Airlines plane heading from Istanbul to Accra was forced to divert to Gudja and land at Malta International Airport after running into technical trouble on Tuesday.

Sources said that the Boeing 737-9F2 plane developed a problem with one of its wheels as it was over northern Africa. Its captain opted to turn the aircraft around and land in Malta.

The aircraft landed in Malta safely some time after 3pm.

An MIA spokesperson confirmed that the airport had handled a “technical diversion” but said that operations were running normally.
