Cisk Strong wins silver at International Brewing Awards

Cisk Strong Premium Lager, brewed by Farsons Brewery, has been named a silver medal winner in the International Strong Beer category at the International Brewing Awards 2019. This latest accolade brings the number of awards garnered by the Farsons beer portfolio to almost 60 since the first one was awarded in 1952.

The competition, attracting entries from over 200 breweries and cider mills around the world, was judged by an international panel of 50 judges. Over 1,000 beers and ciders from 50 countries were submitted for judging, which took place over an intensive three-day period.

Judging categories ranged from ultra-low ABV beers to high-strength styles, showcasing the versatility and variety found in modern-day brewing.

Established in 1888, the International Brewing Awards aim to reward and recognise the innovation, attention to detail and hard work that goes into beer and cider production.

The competition has evolved and developed with the global industry and has accommodated many changes in the market over its 130-year history. It is open to all types of beer and is structured into nine beer categories with 34 classes. With few classes, medals are difficult to win and therefore every win is that much more prestigious. Judged only by professional brewers, an International Brewing Awards medal is considered among the industry’s most coveted awards.

The awards culminated with the medal presentations at London’s Guildhall, where members of the international brewing and cider-making community came together to discover and celebrate the 2019 trophy winners.  Jonathan Cassar, brewer at Simonds Farsons Cisk, collected the award. Eugenio Caruana, head brewer and chief operations officer at Simonds Farsons Cisk, said: “Winning any award is always special. However, this latest one for our brewery is truly exceptional.

“Significant awards such as these can only be won with the support of a dedicated brewing team that works very hard to ensure quality and consistency in all our beers.”

Ruth Evans, MBE, director of Brewing Technology Services, who oversee the awards, said: “It brings me great pleasure to announce the medal winners, and no small measure of pride to be involved in our fantastic industry. These awards are a bastion of excellence, and we are always sincerely impressed by the talent of the medal winners. With each round of awards, the standards are pushed ever higher. Competition is fierce, and receiving a medal is an achievement to be truly proud of. My congratulations to all!”

Cisk Strong is an outstanding strong premium lager brewed from barley malt, with a full-bodied flavour and a distinct sweet taste.
