Steve Pace (Match 23) rightly challenges the spurious credentials of the NGO Aditus which, while portraying itself as promoting human rights, is now callously backing the introduction of abortion.

As to be expected, Aditus reacted to this forceful and correct accusation with an article of its director, Neil Falzon. The fact that Aditus provides assistance to refugees and illegal immigrants does not exonerate its embedded and sinister agenda to introduce abortion with the ruse of decriminalisation.

Aditus is not the only NGO which plays this game. Lara Dimitrijevic as director of the Women’s Rights Foundation uses her NGO as a platform to do the same. The pattern and strategy used by such NGOs is similar. Under the banner of human rights these NGOs use the Trojan Horse stratagem to introduce abortion.

With remarkably convoluted and longwinded dissembling, Falzon tries to pretend that the introduction of abortion favours the interests of women in distress and we are regaled with the usual hackneyed examples of rape, incest, life threatening pregnancies, etc.

Unbelievably, despite the fact that they lobby for the killing of the most vulnerable, NGOs like Aditus are officially recognised and probably have access to funding from official local sources.

In their campaign for abortion the first casualty is the truth. The advocates of the killing of the unborn are worthy disciples of the ‘Father of Lies’.

The likes of Falzon sell us the nonsense that embryos are expendable as their status is debatable.

Yet, modern science and the procedure of IVF makes a mockery of such claims, not to mention laws that penalise the destruction of the eggs of turtles and other protected animal species. Sadly, we have ‘progressed’ to the stage where the life of animals is given more value than that of human beings.

Falzon’s claim that ‘safe’ abortion safeguards the health of women is another scandalous lie. It is well known that abortion is anything but a safe procedure and that it is fraught with medical risks. I challenge him to learn the truth from people like the US doctor Anthony Levantino who has carried out hundreds of abortions. People like him have direct knowledge and experience of what these heinous procedures involve.

In their campaign for abortion the first casualty is the truth

For good measure, Falzon drags out the old canard that Malta refuses to talk openly about sex, reproductive rights and contraception. This is unadulterated nonsense. The local media are saturated to the point of intoxication on these topics. However, the link between the promotion of abortion, the abuse of women and the phenomenon of immigration on a biblical scale is much closer than appears at first glance. Short-term financial gain and immediate gratification have led to the exploitation of the most vulnerable.

These realities are rooted in what has been termed by John Paul II as ‘The culture of death’. This is a culture that has lost the plot and the real meaning of absolute values. We have lost our ethical compass as we stumble from one quick fix to another.

The causes of mass migration need international involvement to address the real causes resulting from a ruthless business model that strips countries of their wealth without concern for the social and political impact. Here Malta has a privileged platform to raise this issue in international fora.

Meanwhile, on a local level, we must applaud Steve Pace for drawing our attention to the contradiction of NGOs such as Aditus that promote abortion as a ‘human right’, despite working for the interests of immigrants or people in other vulnerable situations.

NGOs have different roles in society. Some work for people with disability, others for the homeless, the mentally ill, drug addicts, etc.

Addressing one problem does not imply indifference to difficulties and needs in other situations.

It is hoped that all NGOs will work in different fields for the authentic flourishing of people in whatever situations.

In such efforts upholding the value of life should always remain paramount.
