The Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) has signed an agreement with the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM). This will result in ITS launching its first ever Master Degree Programme, as well as enhancing the academic programmes already available.

With this agreement, which materialises following an MOU signed in 2016, the EAHM, renowned internationally for its academic strength in the field of hospitality management, especially at Master’s level, will provide quality assurance to current ITS study programmes while assisting in the introduction of an MBA Master Degree programme. Moreover, this collaboration will also give the opportunity to train up to 15 lecturers in facilitating interactive and problem-based teaching and learning and providing effective classroom management skills. These contributions are in line with the long-term vision to develop ITS into a self-sufficient world class international Hospitality and Tourism Educational Institute in the heart of the Mediterranean.

ITS will be offering this Master’s Programme, which is recognised by the NCFHE, from this coming Academic year 2019-2020.

Apart from this agreement with EAHM, ITS has secured various other agreements throughout these past years, with various top international universities and institutions. In fact, ITS launched its first three degree programmes in 2017. Apart from the Bachelor in Gastronomy, ITS offers a Bachelor Degree in Culinary Arts in collaboration with the Institut Paul Bocuse in France and a Bachelor Degree in International Hospitality Management in collaboration with the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Finland.

This agreement will put ITS at the forefront of attracting international students

The EAHM is the leading provider of hospitality education in the Middle East and is fully licensed by the UAE’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The academy is located in Dubai, opposite the world’s only seven-star hotel the Burj Al Arab and forms part of the international luxury hotel chain, The Jumeirah Group. Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts is a well-established luxury hotel company, which has had a distinct impact on the global hospitality market for the past two decades. Jumeirah has transformed the way that luxury is defined as exemplified by its flagship hotel, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.

The chairman of the Board of Governors of ITS, Carlo Micallef, said that this was a major achievement for ITS in that this affiliation with the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, a world-renowned institution in the sector, is a strong recognition of the high standards that ITS has reached today.

ITS CEO Pierre Fenech said this agreement will furthermore put ITS at the forefront of attracting international students.

EAHM executive dean and associate professor, Scott Richardson, said that over the recent years there has been a close relationship between UAE and Malta and this agreement is another arrangement between the two.

This partnership proves more than just a relationship but an affiliation to provide quality programmes, which will give an exchange opportunity between Malta and the UAE.
