The public sculpture is a reflection of the identity, history and cultural heritage of Xagħra, reflected through contemporary art practice.

The concept is deep-rooted in the cultural identity of the community of this village which relates directly to its prehistoric roots.

Agius is synonymous with the contemporary interpretations of the prehistoric elements of Xagħra and the ephemeral nature of his works. The project combines a multitude of artistic forms including sculpture, literature and performance together with heritage, folklore and national language.

The sculpture is a reflection of the artist’s desire to retrieve different narratives related to the community of this village, figuratively entrapped within the stone.

A community performance walk will leave from four prehistoric sites of the village and meet at the site of the public sculpture in 8th September Avenue, Xagħra at 7pm, followed by an inauguration of the sculpture. The project was presented  in 2015 during a national call – Art in Public Spaces Programme – initiated by the Ministry for Transport,  Infrastructure and Capital Projects in collaboration with the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government and the support of the Arts Council Malta and Muża (Heritage Malta).
