The ninth edition of the Malta Robotics Olympiad (MRO) will be taking place this weekend at the Malta Trade Fairs and Convention Centre, Ta’ Qali.

Attracting over 16,000 visitors every year, it is the largest technology event on the island.

This year’s edition is a collection of six major international events under one roof. The legacy competition which started the MRO in 2010 – the MRO Robo Sumo – is still happening every year, where robots created and programmed by students fight in a tournament until only one remains functioning.

One of the newest competitions is the Malta Robo League, which is aimed at a younger audience. The 350+ students taking part are building a robot and will be presenting it at the event.

The DiY Bots is the smallest event at the MRO, which is open to the public, and during which people build robots on the spot to achieve simple tasks.

The eSports Festival is also growing, with over 30 international teams competing this year.

Two new initiatives – the Digital Careers Expo area and the Gadgets Expo – will be presenting the largest digital industry recruitment agencies under one roof and showcasing the hottest gadgets for the public to experience.

The Malta Robotics Olympiad will be held at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali tomorrow, on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, visit https://mromalta.com
