This year the Dominican community is commemorating the 600th anniversary of the death of St Vincent Ferrer, one of the greatest saints of the Order of Preachers.

The feast of St Vincent Ferrer is being celebrated at St Do­minic’s parish church, Valletta, on Saturday, May 11. Festivities will start on Monday, May 6, with the blessing of children and babies at 5.30pm, followed by Mass celebrated by Canon Stefan Galea at the side altar dedicated to the saint.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are days of Triduum. Mass with homily will be celebrated on the three days at 6.15pm. On Thursday Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Charles Scicluna.

Friday, eve of the feast, there will be the translation of the relic at 6pm, followed by Mass by parish priest Michael Camilleri, with the participation of the Dominican community, members of other Valletta churches and parishes and other priests named after St Vincent.

On Saturday, feast day, Pontifical Mass, led by Bishop Paul Darmanin, OFM Cap, will be held at 6pm. The panegyric will be delivered by Fr Joseph Ellul. Following Mass, the procession with the statue of the saint will leave the church at around 7pm. The King’s Own Band, of Valletta, will accompany the procession.

The Cappella Bugeja orchestra, under the direction of Mro Salv Galea, OP, will take part.
