Insurance market ‘in a state of uncertainty’

The insurance market in Malta is in a state of uncertainty because of rapid developments in the commercial and financial sectors of the economy, the Association of Insurance Brokers said.

The overused word ‘liberalisation’ seemed to be the favourite cliché in financial circles, but there appeared to be different opinions on the meaning and intention of the word.

Workers celebrate May Day

The Episcopal Conference is composed of His Grace the Archbishop as president, and all the Bishops of Malta and Gozo, as members. At the Bishops’ Senate to be held in Rome in October this year, His Grace will consequently represent the Maltese dioceses.

Great send-off for Bighi Admiral

Surgeon Rear-Admiral D. P. Gurd and Mrs Gurd were given a great send-off yesterday evening when they left the Royal Navy Hospital in Bighi to return to England at the end of the Admiral’s appointment as Medical Officer-in-Charge.

The car in which he was riding with Mrs Gurd was pulled from the hospital’s main gate to the lift by Surgeon Captains and Surgeon Commanders. Nurses and other members of the hospital staff lined the route and cheered Admiral and Mrs Gurd as they passed by.
