The Premier League title fate will be sealed this weekend after the Malta Football Association announced that the championship decider between Valletta and Hibernians will be played this Saturday, at the National Stadium (kick-off: 4pm). 

Both teams will play the decider after defending champions Valletta were denied the win by Ħamrun Spartans in the most dramatic way after the latter cancelled a one-goal deficit in stoppage-time to end 1-1.

On the other hand, Hibernians eased past Balzan 5-1 with both sides ending joint-top at 58 points.

As per the Malta FA Competition Rules, since both teams have finished on equal points, a deciding match should be played to determine the league winner. 

Should both teams end draw after the 90 minutes, extra-time will be played and penalties will be taken if the score remains blocked. 

The last time Malta's top-flight winner was determined with a play-off was in the 2012/2013 season when Birkirkara defeated Hibernians 3-1. 

Meanwhile, the Malta FA also released an updated schedule of the FA Trophy calendar.

The quarter-finals that were postponed due to bad weather last February are set to be held between May 3 and May 8.

Three of the four games will be held on May 3 namely Tarxien Rainbows vs Balzan (Hibs Stadium - 7pm), Mosta vs Birkirkara (National Stadium - 8pm) while Pieta Hotspurs and Gżira United will resume their game from minute 89 at 1-1 at the National Stadium at 7pm.

The other tie includes Hibernians and Valletta who will meet in the last eight of the domestic cup just four days after their title showdown. The game is scheduled for May 8 at the National Stadium (kick-off: 6.30pm). 

Promotion-relegation play off

The final game of the weekend will be the promotion-relegation play-off where St Andrews will be meeting the third-place team of Division One, at the Hibs Stadium (kick-off: 4pm).
