ALS campaigner Bjorn Formosa was hospitalised on Wednesday after suffering complications related to pneumonia, he told followers on social media.
“Just been admitted to hospital for respiratory failure due to aspirational pneumonia,” he wrote.
Mr Formosa, who has campaigned nationally to drum up awareness in the motor neurone condition ever since he was diagnosed with it, told followers that the medical setback would not disrupt his schedule, with meetings relocated to his bedside at Mater Dei Hospital.
“In these terrible moments we must make one special effort to reach our ultimate goal,” he wrote.

Mr Formosa’s campaigning led to the building and financing of Dar Bjorn, a purpose-built home in Qormi which houses people with degenerative conditions like ALS.
The popularity of that home has prompted Mr Formosa and his wife Maria to work towards building a second such residence, and on Wednesday Mr Formosa urged followers to donate to help finance its creation.
