Triple platinum Mancunian band James will be performing at the Aria Complex on June 12.
James count The Smith’s Morrissey and Johnny Marr among their early fans and have become one of British indie rock’s most celebrated and enduring bands, with a string of hits, including ‘Come Home’, ‘Sit Down’, ‘She's a Star’ and ‘Laid’.
Formed in 1982, the band's Tim Booth (vocals), Adrian Oxaal (lead guitarist), Jim Glennie (bass guitar), Saul Davies (violin, guitar and percussion), Mark Hunter (keyboards), Dave Baynton-Power (drums) and Andy Diagram (trumpet) have achieved timeless longevity attributed to their constant process of renewal and reinvention.
Their most recent album, 2016’s ‘Girl at the End of the World’ debuted at number two in the UK album charts.
In total, they have sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, including their 1998 ‘Best Of’, which was a UK number one and went triple platinum.
They have headlined festivals such as Glastonbury in 1992 and Festival No. 6 in 2015.
Organisers Rock’N Malta artistic director Lou Bondi said that this year’s Rock’N Malta lineup was the most diversified to date. “It is therefore our absolute pleasure to host James as the standard bearers of the ‘alternative’ genre of rock.”
The band, he said, maintained their alternative integrity despite the rollercoastering of the rock and pop scene and achieved commercial success without pandering to mass taste.
