Young martial arts athletes from a local club won medals at an international competition in Serbia held this month.
Eight members of Santa Venera Taekwando took part in the 7th international Taekwando Sabač Open, where they competed with around 700 athletes from across the globe.
Gianluca Barbara delighted coach Brian Saliba by taking home gold in the Men Seniors A class, with Amani Faraoun also making the team proud with a bronze medal in the Cadet A class category.
“We’re very proud of our athletes,” a club spokesperson said. “They did us proud”.
Jean Schembri, Rory Zammit, Amani Faraoun, Ilyas Faraoun, David Wismayer, Jasmine Vassallo, Giacomo Camilleri and Gianluca Barbara all competed.
Taekwando is a Korean martial art characterised by leaps, spins and fast kicking techniques.
