Turnout drops below 70%

The fifth round of local council elections held yesterday went against the consistently upward trend in voter turnout, falling nearly three percentage points, compared to last month’s 71.6 per cent – the highest so far.

Hard Rock’s surprise win

The leader of the Partit tal-Hard Rock, Patrick Grima, also known as Il-Ħanfusa, made a surprisingly good showing in the local council election in Victoria, Gozo, winning 685 votes, according to unofficial results. He was elected on the first count. Grima is a colourful candidate who has promised, among other things, to extend the Christmas holidays in Victoria till the end of April, and naturally, is to hold hard rock concerts whenever possible.

Swieqi residents’ to take  action over illegal parking

Angry Swieqi residents are set to take to the streets next weekend in a bid to stop illegal parking by Paceville goers in front of their houses. They will be parking their cars in the road in front of their houses rather than in their driveways or garages on Saturday night, restricting the possibility of illegal parking.

Delivery of aircraft for Malta-Gozo air service

Malta-Gozo Air Services Ltd, the company which intends to operate services between the two islands as well as charter and pleasure flights from Luqa Airport, expects delivery of its first plane, an ‘Islander’, towards the end of the month. A spokesman said the company is ready to commence scheduled air services between Malta and Gozo as soon as facilities to land in Gozo become available.

More factory space made available at Corradino

The Malta Development Corporation has made arrangements with the Services for the release of some 80,000 square feet of Romney huts at Corradino in order to provide a number of applicants on the waiting list with temporary industrial accommodation.

Man hit by Landover

Dominic Gauci of Burmarrad, limits of St Paul’s Bay, was grievously injured yesterday in a field in Bidnija, limits of Mosta, when he was hit by a Landover driven by Paul Zammit of Bidnija. Gauci was taken to St Luke’s Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.
