Health Minister Chris Fearne’s order to revoke the circular to remove holy images in health centres was the right decision and deserves praise.

It is right that one should not overdo it with too much decorations, etc. But to remove them completely, as the circular says “we are multicultural”, is a silly excuse.

By displaying holy images we are not hurting anyone. Those who do not like our way of life can always pack their bags and return to where they came from.

In Malta, people like to make a vow to God or their patron saint for the recovery of their relatives while undergoing hospital treatment, so it is normal to see candles lit in front of statues of Our Lady of Sorrows and holy pictures given to people in hospital. The majority of the Maltese people are staunch Christians and proud to be so. By displaying holy images we are being grateful to God for graces earned.
