The main pjazza and surrounding streets of Mqabba will undergo extensive embellishment works after the Planning Commission issued the go-ahead for the works.

The project will see the square in front of the main parish church and the connecting side streets upgraded with new paving using both lava and porfido materials.

A new formation of car parking spaces will also be created to ensure more efficient traffic management.

The project will also include the removal of the overhead cables which are currently attached to facades overlooking the pjazza.

These cables will be relocated within a culvert beneath road level to eliminate the visual impact while better exposing the architectural features of the existing properties.

The area around which this project will be carried out includes a number of important monuments and buildings, namely the Mqabba Parish Church, the Chapel dedicated to St Catherine and the Salib tad-Dejma monument, the statue of the Assumption and Second World War public air-raid shelters.
