A suspected poacher was killed by an elephant and then eaten by lions, South Africa’s national parks agency has said.

The man was hunting rhino inside Kruger National Park when the elephant attacked him. His accomplices contacted the man’s relatives, who asked park rangers to help them recover his body.

Rangers found that the only thing left of the man was a skull and his trousers.

Four men believed to have been poaching with the man have been arrested.

““Entering Kruger National Park illegally and on foot is not wise. It holds many dangers and this incident is evidence of that. It is very sad to see the daughters of the deceased mourning the loss of their father, and worse still, only being able to recover very little of his remains,” said Kruger managing director Glenn Phillips.
